QC Kinetix: Regenerative Medicine Franchise Experiencing Rapid Growth

In 2020, QC Kinetix had no operational franchise locations. However, by the end of 2021, its franchisees had launched 59 clinics alongside 11 corporate units, marking a significant expansion.

This rapid growth reflects strong consumer demand for non-surgical pain relief solutions and growing interest among franchise investors in the medical sector, said CEO Justin Crowell.

QC Kinetix, represented by Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith as its spokesperson, specializes in treating musculoskeletal and joint pain caused by injuries, arthritis, or chronic conditions. Crowell explained, “Patients come to us after being told they need a steroid injection, physical therapy, or even surgery.” The clinics use natural biologics derived from the patients themselves. Crowell elaborated, “We are taking either blood or stem cells from the patient and distilling the cells … and injecting it into the joint.”

“Natural Biologics” Approach

Crowell emphasized that QC Kinetix aims to popularize the term “natural biologics,” as their treatments extend beyond stem cell therapy to include options like platelet-rich plasma injections for conditions such as meniscus tears.

The concept of regenerative medicine, which uses the body’s natural tissues for healing, has seen significant advancements over the last decade. Mayo Clinic’s Center for Regenerative Medicine highlights that this approach “goes beyond disease management to discover therapies that support the body in repairing, regenerating, and restoring itself to a state of well-being.”

Origins and Franchise Expansion

QC Kinetix was founded in 2017 by Crowell, Tyler Vail, and Dr. Richard Schaffer in Charleston, South Carolina. The three co-founders identified the potential for a regenerative medicine-focused business after working together in a medical clinic. Vail, a certified physician assistant, serves as the company’s president, while Schaffer is the chief medical officer. They began franchising in 2020, and the business model has attracted significant interest.

The clinics operate on a retail medicine model, functioning as cash-only businesses without dealing with insurance companies. “The average patient spends $10,000 for a treatment plan,” Crowell shared. “It’s not for everyone—some may not believe in it, and others may not afford it—but it’s a unique model that works for us.”

Success Stories from Franchisees

One notable franchisee, Shane Fay, operates three QC Kinetix clinics in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with plans to open a total of 17 locations. Describing the venture as “a dream come true,” Fay said, “We are absolutely just crushing it in this market.”

Previously involved in sales for start-up software companies, Fay was drawn to QC Kinetix’s innovative model and strong reputation. He added, “I feel strongly that this restorative, regenerative path is something most people truly want, along with a personal concierge approach to medicine.”

Fay’s clinics employ a full-time medical director and three physician assistants. Patients, he noted, “are blown away” by the comprehensive access to a dedicated medical team.

Although specific sales figures weren’t disclosed, Fay revealed that his Fort Worth and Dallas locations set sales records upon opening. One clinic, in December 2021, achieved record-breaking monthly revenue, outperforming all corporate and franchised QC Kinetix clinics.

Financial Highlights and Operational Model

The company’s franchise disclosure document shows that five corporate clinics generated gross revenue ranging from $1.06 million to $1.5 million in 2020. Additionally, from January to March 2021, 11 corporate clinics averaged $296,769 in gross revenue. Overall, systemwide sales grew from $8 million in 2020 to $27 million in 2021, largely due to franchise expansions.

QC Kinetix clinics typically operate one day per week, with franchisees determining schedules as they expand to multiple locations. Crowell explained, “A busy day for us is to see 10 new patients. At $10,000 a pop, that’s a good day.” As services increase, clinics may open additional days.

Non-Medical Background Franchisees

Interestingly, most franchisees (95%) lack medical backgrounds. They hire licensed medical professionals to manage patient care. Crowell advised franchisees to familiarize themselves with state regulations governing non-surgical regenerative medicine and consult attorneys experienced in medical law.

Fay echoed this sentiment, encouraging prospective franchisees to conduct thorough research into the efficacy of the treatments.

Clinic Specifications and Investment

QC Kinetix clinics are typically 1,700 to 2,500 square feet and located in Class A office or medical spaces. Initial investments range from $159,030 to $300,230.

As the demand for regenerative medicine continues to grow, QC Kinetix’s unique model positions it as a leader in offering innovative, non-surgical solutions for pain management.
