5 Things You Need to Know before Becoming a Pharmacy Technician | MedCerts

Getting certified as a pharmacy technician while not a requirement in all states, has numerous advantages and benefits such as more training and subsequently job opportunities through continuing education and a better wage down the road. Take note that not all states will require certification, but if you live in a state that online pharmacy does require one, this article will help you prepare and then pass the national certification test.

Before going through anything, it is important to know what you are dealing with that way you can have the best buy medicines online with discount preparation possible, it is not different here. Passing this examination will probably be one of the biggest challenges you will face early in your career.
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) are the two biggest and nationally recognized certification bodies accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Both have varying fees when taking the test, with the PTCB being more expensive. Both have continuing education requirements which you need to fulfil to maintain certification.

What are the requirements to take the exam?
Both bodies will have similar prerequisites wherein applicants will have to have at least a high school diploma or a G.E.D. certificate, pass a criminal investigation check and fully disclose all licensing and registration information from the state pharmacy board in the jurisdiction they reside in. Applicants whose licenses have been revoked, denied or suspended may not qualify to take this exam.

Preparing for the exam
There is a ton of review material online for taking the certification test. Both the PTCB and the ICPT have a number of book recommendations that you may want to consider buying. The PTCB has a section in their website that further helps in your preparation – a practice test. It does not contain the actual questionnaires but it will guide you to which topics the examination will have to help you prepare for it. It isn’t free though, but is a worthwhile investment in my opinion. Each applicant may take this practice exam a maximum of two times.

Certification programs are a great way to prepare future pharmacy technicians in their career ahead because these courses will test the various competencies that an individual needs to work with licensed pharmacists. This adds a lot to their resumes and gives them the opportunity to explore more specialized fields later on if they decide to do so. This is the main reason why, despite not being a requirement, we would suggest pharm techs be certified, despite the additional costs and time, it will be worth it in the long haul.
