How Kara Goucher Stood Up to Running’s Goliath

When Olympic marathoner Kara Goucher went general public in 2015 with her accusation that her previous coach, the legendary Alberto Salazar, experienced skirted antidoping regulations with the elite runners of the Nike Oregon Task, she experienced an onslaught of criticism. The blowback established her again financially and competitively—and designed her wonder if she experienced designed a horrible slip-up. Then past spring, Goucher spoke up yet again, joining previous Nike teammates in a New York Instances op-ed about the company’s exercise of suspending feminine athletes’ pay out throughout pregnancy. Nike soon pledged variations, and in the tumble the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency banned Salazar from coaching for four decades. In the center of this storm, Goucher converted to path functioning at age forty, finishing in fifth spot among women of all ages in her initial off-highway celebration, the infamous Leadville marathon.
