Get A Treadmill And Stop Contributing To The Exercise Graveyard

3 min read

Okay, it is a new year and you are contemplating another piece of exercise equipment for your home. However, you do not want your next purchase to end up in the so called “Exercise Graveyard.” You know what I am talking about don’t you? – That accumulation of gimmicky devices covered in a dusty, cobweb shroud heaped in the corner of your garage. Shall we dare utter the name of these ancient items that have coagulated together to form a hideous sculpture that screams “Quit watching infomercials!” C’mon, you know there is a thighmaster in that mess somewhere! I propose an exercise equipment exodus or departure so to speak. Let’s clean out the graveyard and leave those workout relics behind. We can call it an exercise genesis if you will – becoming a new creation ready to set new fitness goals. However, we need to lay a proper foundation to achieve those goals. Rule number one: No more exercise equipment gimmicks! We need a piece of equipment that will endure years of wear, is economical over the long haul, and is easy to use. We need a piece of fitness equipment that is truly a cornerstone in the fitness regime and won’t end up in the graveyard. What type of home workout equipment can fulfill these attributes? The answer is simple – a treadmill.

First let’s talk basics. Why not capitalize on an exercise that has already been integrated into our physical makeup since the dawn of man. Well, let’s not get anthropologic – how about since man has been upright or since Adam was created from dust. Whatever your beliefs, nothing is more simple than putting one foot in front of the other (okay, toddlers are exceptions.)
A treadmill can provide an easy, efficient workout and offer varying levels of difficulty. Did I say easy and difficult in the same sentence? What I mean is that walking is easy but the workout can be customized for all fitness levels. Beginners to advanced exercisers can receive a great workout on a treadmill. You can walk, jog or run on a treadmill no matter what your fitness level. Most treadmills come with programs that accommodate all levels of fitness utilizing the incline and speed functions. There are plenty of treadmills to choose from online.

I know – the solution for an effective home workout seems too simple, but it is. Go get yourself a treadmill. There is no learning curve for a treadmill. You can simply step on the platform and go. You can set your own pace or have a program set it for you. Treadmills reign supreme when it comes to cardio equipment use. I cannot quote you any studies (although I am sure they exist) but I have owned a treadmill for five years and use it at least twice a week in combination with other equipment. This comes from the queen of the exercise graveyard (according to my husband who is glad to have his garage back.) So what are you waiting for…take a walk and get a treadmill!
