For the second time in a week, the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday stopped an overloaded sailboat packed with men and women migrating from Haiti.

This time, the vessel was stopped about 10 miles off Anguilla Cay, a Bahamian island just north of Cuba. The Coastline Guard reported 123 people today ended up on board. The precise measurement of the boat was not promptly identified, but judging by footage introduced by the Coastline Guard, the amount of people on board far exceeded the vessel’s capability.

The interdiction will come six times right after the Coastline Guard stopped a sailboat with 179 men and women from Haiti 30 miles off Andros Island, also in the Bahamas.

The federal govt tracks maritime migration by the fiscal year, commencing and ending Oct. 1. If the quantities of Haitian migrants stopped at sea proceed at the recent amount, fiscal 12 months 2022 will surpass final fiscal yr, which noticed the most people today interdicted by the Coastline Guard since FY 2019.

Considering that Oct, the Coast Guard stopped 1,116 Haitian migrants very likely headed to Florida, in contrast with 1,527 in all of fiscal calendar year 2021. In fiscal 12 months 2020, the Coast Guard only encountered 418 folks from Haiti at sea.

Friday’s incident is also part of a craze in which Haitian migrants are overloading on to sailboats to make the hazardous maritime journey. Many of these vessels have arrived off the coastline of Important Largo in the Higher Keys considering the fact that November.

In January, 176 men and women were being stopped in close proximity to the unique gated north Vital Largo local community of Ocean Reef.

On Christmas Eve, Border Patrol brokers took 52 men and women from Haiti into custody following they arrived by sailboat off a distant two-lane highway that leads to Ocean Reef identified as Card Audio Road.

That landing came right after 63 Haitian migrants landed in almost the exact place on Card Seem Road, once more in an overloaded sailboat.
